Abstract:
The findings of the computed tomography (CT) and the surgical findings were compared in thirty cases of chronic cholesteatomatous otitis media, with the objective- of evaluating the sensitivity of this radiological exam. There was coincidence in findings in 94,73% of the cases. Among the structures, the smallest coincidences ocurred in the incutum (86,6%), in the incus (80%) and in the stapes, whose image, generally, was not realized. It follows: 1) The CT is a precise exam to evaluate the extension of the cholesteatoma. 2) The possibility of fail in the evaluation of the scutum image may be compensated by the observation of this structure in an exam-using an otologic otoscope or microscope. 3) SITIA incus erosion, especially of the long process may be not detected by CT. In 20% of the cases, long process erosion were not revealed.
