Mário Ottoni de Rezende
1933-1949

Born in Tébas de Leopoldina, MG, in 1883. He majored as Physician, Medical School of Rio de Janeiro in 1906. Mario Ottoni started his medical practice as general practitioner, then went into Urology and finally Otorhinolaryngology. He was a master and a scientist, considered by many as one of the main Otorhinolaryngologists in the country. He was the Head of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Santa Casa de Sao Paulo, for many decades and in 1933 he founded, together with Homero Cordeiro, the Journal of Otorhinolaryngology of Sao Paulo, which would later become the Brazilian Journal of Otorhinolaryngology, acting as its first editor.

José Eugênio Rezende de Barbosa
1950 -1964

Otorhinolaryngologist. Head and Full Professor of Department of Otorhinolaryngology , Santa Casa de Sao Paulo, from 1953 to 1969. He built a history of didactic spirit and encyclopedic knowledge. Following Mario Ottoni, he took over the position of Editor of the Brazilian Journal of Otorhinolaryngology , in which he had worked as secretary from 1933 to 1949. Enthusiastic about scientific methodology and logical clinical reasoning, he was a great advocator of the expansion of scientific production in medical training, effectively participating in the professional transformation of the academic activity of Otorhinolaryngology in Brazil. He had direct contact with the key people in the world of Otorhinolaryngology of his times, acting as a pioneer in different diagnostic and surgical procedures in Brazil.

Rudolf Lang
1970-1985

Together with Nicanor Letti, he was the main creator of the Brazilian Society of Otology. He was born in Caçapava do Sul, RS, in 1932. He was graduated in 1958, Medical School, Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. Head of the Service of Otorhinolaryngology and Bronchoesophagoscopy, Hospital Emesto Domelles, in Porto Alegre, from 1962 to 1978. In 1973, he took over the position of Faculty Professor, Discipline of Otorhinolaryngology , Medical School, Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul. He acted as President of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Medical Association of Rio Grande do Sul in 1969. He died in Hanover, Germany, in 1991.

Arthur Otávio Ávila Kos
1985-1986

Born in Rio de Janeiro, he was Faculty Professor, Discipline of Otorhinolaryngology , Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. He started a new stage in the history of the Brazilian journal with the creation of the position of Director of Publications, who then became responsible for publishing RBORL.

Fernando Sérgio Portinho
1987-1988

Graduated in Medicine, University of Rio de Janeiro, he is an Otorhinolaryngologist, with Master and Ph.D. in Otorhinolaryngology , UNIFESP. Currently he is Joint Professor and responsible for the Discipline of Otorhinolaryngology , UNIRIO.

Ricardo Bento
1990-1996

Born in Sao Paulo in 1954. Full Professor, Medical School, University of Sao Paulo; Coordinator of Post-graduation Program Latu and Stricto Sensu in Otorhinolaryngology , FMUSP. He was President of the Brazilian Society of Otology for two terms and President of Sao Paulo Society of Otorhinolaryngology . Editor of Brazilian Journal of Otorhinolaryngology from 1990 - 1996, whose joint editor was Priscilla Bogart Rapapport, Ph.D in Otorhinolaryngology, FMUSP and Head and Faculty Professor, Discipline of Otorhinolaryngology , Medical School of ABC.

Paulo Augusto de Lima Pontes
1997-1998

Otorhinolaryngologist and Head and Neck Surgeon . Ph.D. and Full Professor, Escola Paulista de Medicina. Head of Otorhinolaryngology and Coordinator of Post-graduation Program in Otorhinolaryngology , UNIFESP. He was President of the Brazilian Society of Otorhinolaryngology between 1993 and 1996 and Founding President of the Brazilian Society of Laryngology and Voice. Editor and Director of Publications, Brazilian Journal of Otorhinolaryngology and Brazilian Society of Otorhinolaryngology between 1997 and 1998.

In this period, his joint director was Luc Louis Maurice Weckx, Otorhinolaryngologist, Ph.D. and Full Professor, Escola Paulista de Medicina. Current Head of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, UNIFESP. He was President of the Brazilian Society of Otorhinolaryngology for two terms 1999-2000 and 2001-2002.

Carlos Alberto Herrerias de Campos
1999

Ph.D. in Otorhinolaryngology , Escola Paulista de Medicina, UNIFESP, Director of Publications of the Brazilian Society of Otorhinolaryngology in 1999-2000, working as editor of the journal in 1999. Otorhinolaryngologist graduated at Santa Casa de Sao Paulo. He was the President of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology , APM, Sao Paulo Society of Otorhinolaryngology , and Alumni Association, Santa Casa de Sao Paulo. He is currently the Head of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology , Santa Casa de Sao Paulo.

Henrique Olival Costa
2000 - 2005

Editor of Brazilian Journal of Otorhinolaryngology since 1999, working as joint editor with Carlos Campos; as of 2000 the position of Executive Editor was created and he has been in office since. Graduated at Santa Casa de Sao Paulo, he is an Otorhinolaryngologist and Head and Neck Surgeon. Ph.D. in Otorhinolaryngology, Joint Professor at Faculdade de Ciências Médicas, Santa Casa de Sao Paulo, and Scientific Director of Instituto de Ciências Avançadas em Otorrinolaringologia - ICAO.

João Ferreira Mello Jr.
2006 - Today

Professor Livre-docente do Departamento de Otorrinolaringologia da Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo, com título de especialista em Alergia e Imunopatologia Clínica (1992). Ocupou diversas diretorias na Associação Brasileira de Alergia e Imunopatologia, e na Sociedade Luso-Brasileiro de Alergologia e Imunopatologia Clínica e Câmaras Técnicas no Conselho Regional de Medicina do Estado de São Paulo. Foi responsável pela criação do grupo de Alergia em Otorrinolaringologia do Hospital das Clínicas da Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo (1990) do qual é o coordenador chefe.
