Aberrant Internal Carotid Artery in the Middle Ear.

Abstract:
The internal carotid artery abnormally located inside de middle ear has been described in the literature as aberrant internal artery. Although, the near proximity of these anatomic structures, few cases have been presented. In this article, the authors relate a case of a 57 year old female, with a history of unilateral pulsatile tinnitus at the right ear, associated with deafness at the same side for seven years. In relatio to the otoscopic features, a vascular tumor inside the middle ear was suspected. The CT scan showed bilaterally prominent carotid arteries in the middle ear. It was decided todo a periodically follow-up and the patient's symptoms didn't show progression after two years.
