Funga Sinusite Update: Endoscopic Surgery Findings in 15 Cases.

Abstract:
Fungal sinusitis is a clinical entity that has been receiving increasing attention due to its growing incidence. There are four presentations: aspergiloma or fungal ball, allergic fungal sinusitis, slowly invasive and fulminant sinusitis. The aim of this study is to analyze the clinical, pathological, radiological, microbiological and endoscopic findings of 15 patients with fungal sinusitis. All of them underwent functional endoscopic surgery. The follow was at least six months. Comorbidity was found in six cases. There were identified nine cases of aspergiloma, four cases of allergic sinusitis, two cases of slowly invasive and no case of fulminant sinusitis. Clinic and endoscopic resolution were noted in 12 cases. Treatment failure was due to recurrence, death of no-related ca and nasal poliposis relapse. There is no definitive clinical sign of symptom of fungal sinusitis: diagnosis relies on adequate culture media, mucous biopsy, radiologic findings and specially reasonable clinic suspicion index.
