Vestibular Symptoms and Electronystagmography Findings: 230 Cases Study.

Abstract:
The correlation between vestibular symptoms (kind of dizziness) and results of the ENG test was studied, considering sex, age, duration of the symptoms and others diseases. 230 dizzy patients, were submited to ENG test, within the period of june through december 1995. The group studied consisted of 146 women and 84 men, aged 10 to 86 years, with average of 45,6 years. Among the patients with abnormal test findings, 56 showed peripheral vestibular irritated syndrom and 8 peripheral vestibular deficit syndrom. The most common type of dizziness observed were: instability, rotatory objective dizziness and floateness. The duration of the dizziness was classified into: second, minut, constant and hours. The rotatory subjective dizziness and floateness were most commonly related to pathologics ENG test findings. The arterial systemic hypertension, diabetes mellitus and cervical column disorders didn't show any correlation with high incidence of normal test.
