Chondroblatoma of the Temporal Bone.

Abstract:
Chondroblastoma is a rare bone tumor that represents approximately 1% of all primary bone tumors. Chondroblastoma of the temporal bone is very rare, by 1992 only 33 cases had been documented in the literature. A case of chondroblastoma of the temporal bone is presented and discussed. A 14-year-old girl presented with a 8-month history of progressive left facial palsy, with no recovery. Subsequently, she developed hearing loss in the same side. She had a painless swelling posterior to her left ear, gradually increasing in size. Otoscopy revealed a left external auditory canal mass. The CT scan revealed a mass involving the mastoid vells, middle and external ear, with bulging of the cortical. During the surgery, it was noted a large cyst with a brown fluid inside. After the removal, the facial nerve was totally exposed in the 3rd portion. The large cavity was obliterated with hydroxyapatite. A CT scan performed one year postoperatively showed no evidence of recurrence or residual disease.
