CHERUBISM - Three cases studied in a sane farnily

Abstract:
Cherubism is a rare benign disease of genetic etiology and family occurrence.
Clinically it is characterized by the painless growth of the mandible and both maxillaries.
It begins in the first years of life and grows until adolescence. Then is stops spontaneously and decreases in adult life by a self-reparation process.
The diagnosis is made based on the clinical manifestations and through radiological studies which usually are pathognomonic. The histopathological exam shows osseous displasia and giant-cell reaction.
A case is reported of a patient who presented with a typical manifestation of Cherubísm and serious deformity of the face bones. He had two brothers with the same disease. All of them were submimed to surgery with acceptable aesthetic and functional results.
