Exposure to Occupational Noise and Blood Pressure.

Abstract:
This study evaluates the relationship between exposure to various levels of occupational sound pressure, hearing loss produced by noise, and high blood pressure (PAE). The population studied consisted of 530 employees of an industry of paper and cellulose: 473 of operational areas and 57 employees of management sectors, not exposed to occupational noise (control group). A mulliple regression analyses excluded non significant variables (p>0,10): smoking, workingtime and hearing patterns. In this study, hearing losses were negatively associated with PAE. The initial model included five variables predietor of PAE: family history of PAE, race, body mass measure, age work sector. It was verified a larger proportion of employees in the management than in operational sector had PAE (31,6% and 16,0%, respectively). This finding may be related to stress due to lhe constant changes in a highly competitive working environment as a function of the programs of quality.
