Abstract:
The aurthors made a revision in their patients' forms and video endoscopy exams performed between january 1991 to april 1994, and found 96 cases of "cysts of vocal folds". This benign lesion causes voice disorders, horseness and vocal fatigue. A clear relationship was confirmed between the professional use of the voice and the appearance of this pathology. The histopathology study and clinical findings suggest a new proposal for a terminology: epidermic cyst, anexial and pseudocyst, according to its composition, covering epithelium and localization. The average age of the patients was between 31 and 40 years and the predilection was for the female sex. The diagnosis is considerad difficult without optic systems. Many patients came to the office with another diagnosis. The most accurate clinical exam for the diagnosis of the cyst lesion o f the vocal fold is the laringoscopy with optic fibers and magnification of image. The most effective treatment is the microsurgery of the larynx and after that we recommend voice therapy.
