Abstract:
A prospective study was performed in 80 patients with epistaxis attended in ENT service of Joćo XXIII Hospital from April to September 1993. The parameters for analysis were anamnese, physical examination and a specific protocol. The complementary tests were performed when necessary. The objective of the authors was to investigate some correlation among: age and sex with number of recurrent and place of bleeding; treatment and intensity of epistaxis; etiology with intensity and age of patients. Fifty five percent of the patients were male; history of recurrences was positive in.57,5% of the cases; anterior epistaxis was verified in 83,8%. Chemical cauterization was the treatment more used (.51,3% ). The bleeding was classified as small in 47,5%. The most frequent etiology was sistemics causes (52, 5% ). Differences were observed in relation to age groups and intensity of bleeding. The authors conclude that there wasn't significant differences among number of recurrences and place of epistaxis in relation to age of patients sex. However they observed important correlation between intensity of bleeding and treatment. Like wise the etiologies defer in confomity to age group and have differents intensity of bleeding.
