Abstract:
The use of biomaterials for reconstruction of the ossicular chain in the middle ear involves a different approach than it is to other regions of the organism as they are subjected to chemical and mechanical changes.- The type of implantation and the composition of the prosthesis are responsible for functional failures that result in deterioration or extrusion of the implant. Hydroxilapatite has been the last material developed in base of its chemical similarity with bone formation. In the present study we analyze the acceptance of the ossicular replacement prostheses made of hydroxilapatite in middle ear surgery.
