Abstract: After embiologic considerations on development of the ossicular chain of the middle ear and its association with the first and second branchial arch syndrome the authors call the atention to the isolated malformations of the ossicular chain. They present and discuss on four operated cases and conclude that we must keep in mind this possibility in all cases of condutive or mixed hearing loss specially if unilateral.
