Abstract: A series of observations were from studying a group of 190 patients with otologic complaints. Although these findings cannot be generalized they are indeed interesting. The lack of correlation between presence or absence of tinnitus and type of audiometric findings proved that the exact structure responsible for the tinnitus is still an enigma. The findings were discussed and hypothesis were made about the physiopathology of tinnitus.
Therefore, from the facts observed in this study sample, tinnitus seems to be caused by the peripheral auditory apparatus or by a systemic dysfunction in more than one structure of the central nervous system and can be influenced by the metabolism of this system.
