Maxillary Sinus Aplasia - Report of a Case.

Abstract: Maxillary sinus hypoplasia is an anomaly of the paranasa. sinuses occasionally encoutered by otolaryngologists. Aplasia of the maxillary sinus however is a rarely encoutered condition. This clinical entities can arise as a result of the developmental defects, trauma, surgery, systemic illness ol neoplasm. The correct diagnosis is important to radiologists otolaryngologists and ophtalmologists, because the apparent opacification of the maxillary antrum on sinus radiographs can lead to an incorrect diagnosis of chronic sinusitis of maxillary antral tumour and enlargement of the ipsilatera orbital cavity can misdiagnosed as orbital masses, and the patient are often treated inappropriately. A case of unilateral aplasia is reported. Associated anatomical anomalies anc review of the literature is described.
