Abstract: The Otoacoustic Emissions by Distortion Product (OAEPD) are another option, besides of Transientey Otoacoustic Emissions, for the hearing screening of newborns. The OAEPD offers the possibility to test a coclhea in specific frequencies. We recorded PDOAE in 101 normal new borns without hearing risk to establish a standard of responses at this age band. We obtained 18,8% of tests with responses in all frequencies and 81,2% with parcial responses. We did not register response diference in relation to sex, age and ear side. We found minor responses ïncídence ín 1 Khz (30,2%) and 1,2 Khz (48%). The minor intensity was in 1 Khz, 1,2 Khz and 4 Khz, and the major in 2 Khz with peaks in 5 - 6,3 Khz. The noise was recorded with maximum intensity in 1 Khz and 1,2 Khz. We concluded that a majority of tests gives parcial responses. The response's incidênce varies according to the analized frequencies. There is a high noise level in low frequencies that hides the responses in these frequencies. Our study confirms the limitation of this metod to test the cochlea in low frequencies.
