Subglotic stenosis and Rethi Method: Controversy Surronding surgical Techniques.
Authors:
Robert Thomé *;
Daniela Curti Thomé**.

Keywords: laryngostenosis, cricoid cartilage, laryngeal reconstruction.

Abstract: Since 1955, when Rethi introduced the posterior split augmentation method, a number of modifications in the original technique have been advocated, despite the validity and proven efficacy of his basic principie. However, there seems to be agreement in relation to two ponnts. The first is that stenting is always necessary, and the second is that grafting reduces the length of time the stent is in place. This paper discasses the advantages and disacivantages of two surgical techniques: cartilage grafting and short - terln stenting versas mucosal grafting and medium - term stenting. The results of 65 patients treated over 25 years are evaluated.
