Mastoidectomy: State of the Art from the Infeccious View

Abstract: The authors studied, based in surgical results of 200 patients, the criteria of mastoidectomy indication in the treatment of chronic otitis media. It was done a retrospective study taking in consideration the age, sex, infection recovery and postoperative complications. They concluded that in patients with less than 12 years and big cholesteatomas the best approach was canal down procedure. For atical cholesteatomas in patients older than 12 years we can use closed technique, when is possible a good follow up.
