Factors of risk perinatal in hearing impairment. Incidence and prevention.

Abstract: Four hundred seventeen newborn were evaluated at Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre and Santa Casa de Misericórdia de Porto Alegre concerning incidence of conditions of high risk related to deafness according to the analysis of the records. Three-hundred and eleven newborn were found normal and one-hundred and six were considered high risk. Of these, 49,5% were having aminoglycosides, 54,2% were premature,12,19% with 5th mins apgar of 6 or less and 7,3% were underweight. Association of different risk factors was significant. The authors reviewed the risks found and emphasized the importance of prevention, precocious diagnosis and early habilitation.
