Abstract: In this present work, 915 children were examined who were enrolled in the first and second grades in elementary schools in Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo, through otoscopy, audiometry and impedanciometry. It was observed the level of the hearing and the children were put together acoording to their sucio-economie índex.
From the 915 children who were examined, 3,9% presented a loss of some part of hearing, above the 30 dB, and a relationship between prevalence of hearing loss and sucio-economic characteristics is seen.
The author discusses his data with those whith those which were collected by the other authors and verifies also a relation ship between the studied pathology and the levels of hearing which had been verified. It was observed that the chronic otitis media had been lhe disease with the highest percentage of hearing loss.
