Abstract: The authors review the epidemiological importance of acute and secretory otitis media. Afterward, the experimental and clinical evidences of the association between passive smoking and otitis media are discussed. They conclude that additional studies are necessary to test the hypothesis that passive smoking is a risk factor for secretory and acute otitis media.
