Otolaryngologic Manifestations of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease.

Abstract: Considerably more attention has been directed toward the Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease in recent years, special in respect with the otolaryngology clinically pictures, where even 53% of cases occurs without associated gastroentrology syntomallogy. Many of these patients Nave been misdiagnosed ordiagnosed as neurotic because of their inspecific clinic history ortheir physical examination completely normal. It is a common problem in infants and children with great airway manifestations that can lead to serious morbiditity and even death. The authors treated 12 cases suffering: sensation of foreign body in the throat (62,5%), hearburn (37,5%), dysphagia (37,5%), regurgitation (37,5%) buccal burning (25%), odynophagia (25%), chronic cough (12,5%), recurrent otitis media and pneumonia. The diagnosis was based al clinically picture, endoscopic and roentgenographic examination. We present this pathology of a great interest to otolaryngologist by the syimptoms and problems associated with the upper airway, head and neck. An adequate index of suspicion is frequently necessary to suggest the diagnosis.
