Abstract: The authors evaluated efficacy, tolerance and adherence to Roxithromycin in the treatment of acute bacterial pharyngites in a group of 42 patients. Group A was treated with roxithromycin 300 mg once a day for 5 days and Group B received same treatment for 7 days. Oropharyngeal swab cultures were provided at the 1st and 8th day of treatment. Pain, cough, cleanning throat, fever, pharyngeal hyperemia, purulence, hypertrophic linfoid tissue and tonsillar inflammatory signs were clinically evaluated. Both therapeutic schemes were effective to treat acute bacterial pharyngites. Mild to moderate gastric and intestinal disturbance was the only side effect observed. Results from clinical and microbiological findings did not show significant diferences when the two schemes were compared.
