Abstract: This retrospective study evaluated 150 tinnitus patients from the Tinnitus Service of Otorhinolaryngology Department of Clinics Hospital, São Paulo, from November I 1994, when it was created, to March 1996. Patients were evaluated by a tinnitus questionnaire and data regarding sex, age, years of tinnitus, localization, severity, interference on everyday activities, as well as some characteristics regarding sex. The results indicated higher prevalence of females, 40 to 60 years, tinnitus longer than 3 years, bilateral, moderate to severe intensity and with a high degree of interference on everyday activities. The authors wish to contribute to improve the study of a so bothering symptom, which may be alleviated in many cases if well understood.
