Abstract: Spontaneous hemorrhage from the tonsil is rare. Acute tonsillar hemorrhage as a complication of acute and/or chronic tonsillitis was occasionally reported in the pre-antibiotic era. Gases of spontaneous tonsillar hemorrhage reported in the past have been associated with infectious mononucleosis. The presentation, etiology, pathophysiology and management of a spontaneous hemorrhage from the tonsil secondary to acute tonsillitis are reported.
